Nightclub Collapse Leaves 124 Dead - Catholic Bishops of the Dominican Republic and Pope Francis Offer Condolences

Tuesday morning, April 8, at the Jet Set nightclub the roof collapsed leaving at least 124 dead, according to the reports from local media.
Pope Francis sends condolences to the Dominican people for tragedy in the night center.
The Holy Father has sent his condolences to the Dominican Republic following the tragic collapse at a nightclub in Santo Domingo.
Joins in prayer for the victims, their families and all those affected by this painful event.
"The Holy Father imparts to all, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, consolation of the afflicted, the comforting apostolic blessing."
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Dominican Republic wrote:
1- With deep sorrow, we express our solidarity and sympathy to those affected by the tragedy that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 8th, at the Jet Set entertainment center. We pray to the Lord for the eternal repose of the souls of the deceased, for their families, for comfort, and for a speedy recovery for the injured.
2- We encourage our authorities and healthcare personnel to continue providing the assistance those affected deserve, in accordance with their vocation. Likewise, we call on the public to collaborate with relief agencies with actions such as donating blood, yielding to ambulances, sharing only information from official sources, praying for all those affected, among others.
3- At this moment when we as humans experience sadness over this unfortunate event, at the same time, we are called to keep hope alive, transforming uncertainty into an opportunity to bear witness to the love that springs from our faith.
4 – In the midst of this situation that has shocked the Dominican people, we ask the Lord to ensure that the institutions and owners responsible for ensuring the good condition of public and private infrastructure guarantee the safety of those who use these spaces.
