"Let us pause in prayer with Mary, Mother of the Church, for the health of the Holy Father Francis." These were the words with which Cardinal Robert Prevost, Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, introduced this evening, March 3rd, in St. Peter's Square, the Rosary for the Pope, who has been hospitalized at the Gemelli Polyclinic since February 14. For the eighth consecutive prayer meeting for the health of the Pontiff, organized by the Vicariate of Vatican City, the cardinal emphasized that the Virgin, "Mother of Holy Hope, assists, restores and consoles all those who turn to her help," hoping that it will also be "a sign of consolation, of sure hope."
Before an image of “Mary Mother of the Church” placed in the parvis of the Vatican Basilica, the Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops led the Marian prayer in the presence of cardinals, bishops, prelates, priests, men and women religious of the Roman Curia and the diocese of Rome and hundreds of faithful who at 9 pm every day, since February 24, have gathered to entrust the healing of Pope Francis to the intercession of the Virgin.
After the meditation of the joyful mysteries and the recitation of the "Salve Regina", at the end of the Litany of Loreto, Cardinal Prevost invoked God to send his Spirit "to help our weakness, so that, persevering in faith, we may grow in love and walk together to the goal of blessed hope". Finally, the assembly intoned the "Oremus pro Pontifice nostro", and was dismissed by the cardinal with a blessing.
