WATCH as Crowds Join to Pray for Pope Francis in the Vatican's St. Peter's Square with Cardinal Czerny Leading - VIDEO



Tonight's Vatican Rosary for Pope Francis was led by the prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, this evening, March 8, in St. Peter's Square. The recitation of the Rosary for the Pontiff hospitalized at the Gemelli Polyclinic since February 14 has been  continuing nightly with thousands joining to pray. Introducing the Marian prayer, the cardinal reported that yesterday evening, in the Buenos Aires cathedral, many people gathered for Pope Francis, under the motto "Love is paid with love" and urged to pray unanimously

Cardinal Michael Czerny, prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, led the recitation of the Rosary for the Bishop of Rome on the steps of the Vatican Basilica. "Let us unite in prayer with gratitude, hope and love, entrusting his health to the mercy of God", added the cardinal, in the certainty "of the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who illuminates our path as a sign of consolation and sure hope". "With our gaze turned to Jesus, let us entrust our beloved Holy Father Francis to the maternal protection of Mary, Mother of the Church", then exhorted Cardinal Czerny before beginning the Marian prayer.

Cardinals, bishops, prelates, priests, men and women religious of the Roman Curia and the diocese of Rome and hundreds of faithful, who gathered at 9 pm for the thirteenth consecutive evening, prayed for the Pope, who has been hospitalized at the Policlinico Gemelli since February 14.

After the introductory prayer, the joyful mysteries were meditated upon - contemplated on Monday and Saturday - which concern those events in the history of salvation which occurred before and after the birth of Christ: the annunciation, Mary's visit to Elizabeth, the nativity, the presentation of Jesus in the Temple, the finding of Jesus among the doctors in the Temple.

At the end of the fifth decade of Hail Marys , the Salve Regina was raised to the Virgin and subsequently the Litany of Loreto was intoned. Cardinal Czerny then pronounced the final prayer which was followed by the singing of the Oremus pro Pontifice . Finally, the assembly was dismissed by the cardinal with a blessing.
