The president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops spoke to Italy's Tv2000 about the current U.S. administration: “We asked for the opportunity to meet Trump. We spend more on the poor than we receive. If someone who has entered illegally needs assistance, we will help them anyway”
He also responded to Vice President JD Vance remarks during an interview on Jan. 26th with Margaret Brennan on CBS News’ “Face the Nation.” Vance said, "I think that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops needs to actually look in the mirror a little bit and recognize that when they receive over $100 million to help resettle illegal immigrants, are they worried about humanitarian concerns or are they actually worried about their bottom line"

The US Bishops' president's interview aired on January 29th at 9.10pm during the program 'Di Bella sul 28.'
The words of the Trump administration on the migrant issue and funding for the American Church “have deeply affected us because they are not true”. This was stated by the president of the United States Catholic Bishops Conference, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, on Tv2000 in the program 'Di Bella sul 28', hosted by Antonio Di Bella.
“We spend – Msgr. Broglio recalls – more than we receive to help the poor. We have always insisted on respecting the law but we must respond to the concrete situation. If there is someone who has come here even illegally and needs assistance, we must help them because it is Christ himself who asks us to. The words used are false and we have decided to respond in a very chaste manner, without entering into the merits of the speeches, but telling the truth”.
“We must respond to those who have difficulties – adds Msgr. Broglio – and we will continue to talk to those in Congress to reform the immigration law. We almost all agree that it needs to be changed and something needs to be done that is suitable for the year 2025”.
“We are willing to talk – reveals Monsignor Broglio to Tv2000 – We have also asked for the possibility of meeting with the president or vice president to talk not in the media but face to face. In this way I believe we can try to understand each other and move forward”.
