RIP Sister Veronica Higgins - Beloved Oklahoma Religious Sister Dies in a Car Accident

A 74-year-old nun died Thursday, Jan. 2, afternoon, after a wreck along a Canadian County highway, in the American State of Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Just before 3:20 p.m. Thursday, Sister Veronica Higgins, of Oklahoma City, was driving a car west on Oklahoma Highway 3, about 4 miles south of Okarche, when the vehicle left the road, struck a tree and came to rest in a creek, troopers said.
Officials in a report said Higgins was “apparently ill,” and that the cause of the collision was a medical incident.
The Archdiocese of Oklahoma City confirmed Higgins' death, posting on social media, "Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her."
Archbishop Paul Coakley also wrote about Higgins, asking for prayer.
"I have just learned of the sudden and unexpected death of Sister Veronica Higgins, CST earlier today, Jan. 2. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Veronica, the Carmelite Sisters of St. Therese, and all who grieve her passing. Eternal rest gran unto her O Lord. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be provided in the near future," Coakley wrote.
Higgins was a member of the Carmelite Sisters of St. Therese of the Infant Jesus and worked at the Center of Family Love in Okarche, according to their website.
Higgins was wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, the patrol reported.
