Pope Francis Praises Humanitarian Group saying " the Gospel" - "invites us to do good to everyone and especially to the least, the poorest"

Pope Francis met with the organization, ResQ, which saves and offers support to thousands of migrants traveling across the Mediterranean. Nearly 31,000 migrants have gone missing whilst attempting to cross the Mediterranean since 2014. In 2023, over 3,000 people were confirmed to have died making the crossing. ResQ People Saving People was founded to protect the lives and rights of people in danger in the Mediterranean. On December 11, Pope Francis met with ResQ and praised the “worthy work” they do for migrants traveling the Mediterranean and Balkan routes.

Dear brothers and sisters,
I am pleased to welcome you and congratulate you on the meritorious action you carry out in favor of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea and those traveling along the Balkan route. Thank you! Indeed, the rescue of those who risk sinking in miserable boats, as well as the initial reception of those who arrive in Europe at the end of long journeys with dangers of all kinds, is a work that is more necessary than ever. The action pursued by your organization is aimed at saving human lives: the lives of people fleeing from places where serious conflicts are raging, which often trigger humanitarian crises and also involve the violation of fundamental human rights.
Faced with the drama of forced migrants, which unfortunately sometimes becomes a tragedy, you have not remained indifferent, but have asked yourselves: I, we, what can we do? You do not look the other way. The basis of this attitude is the belief that every human being is unique and their dignity is inviolable, regardless of their nationality, skin color, political opinion or religion.
Unfortunately, this does not often happen and many lives are exploited, rejected, abused, reduced to slavery. And faced with the vastness and complexity of the migratory phenomenon, civil authorities are not always able to fully address it according to their responsibilities.
Let us welcome the action of those who do not limit themselves to observing things, criticizing from afar, but get involved, offering a bit of their time, their talent and their resources to alleviate the suffering of migrants, to save them, welcome them and integrate them. The migrant must be welcomed, accompanied, promoted and integrated. This generosity, this industriousness is in harmony with the Gospel, which invites us to do good to everyone and especially to the least, the poorest, the most abandoned, the sick, the people in danger.
Dear friends, go forward! May Mary, Help of migrants, assist you in your work. I bless you and accompany you with prayer. And you too, please, pray for me. Thank you.
