Pope Francis Holds a Private Audience with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the Vatican - VIDEO


Pope Francis held a private audience with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in the Vatican's Apostolic Palace papal library on November 27th in the morning.
Pope Francis and Blinken spoke of international issues, including the war in Ukraine and the Middle East. The meeting occurred a few hours after the beginning of the two-month cease-fire agreed upon between Israel and Lebanon. The U.S. diplomat, who traveled with his family, was also in conversation with key officials of the Vatican Secretariat of State: Cardinal Parolin and Archbishop Gallagher. Blinken's first time with the Pope was in June 2021. It was for 40 minutes, during which the Pope recalled his trip to the United States in 2015. Secretary Blinken wrote on X:
Met with Pope Francis today to express gratitude for his global leadership in protecting the most vulnerable and promoting human dignity.
He also met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin stating: "Met with Holy See officials Cardinal Parolin and Archbishop Gallagher and affirmed close U.S.-Holy See partnership on addressing key priorities. We discussed the Middle East and Sudan, support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, and promoting democracy in Venezuela."

Blinken also attended G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Italy, with representatives of the world’s leading economies are addressing important international crises. The G7 meeting, is from November 23-27th with Italy’s 2024 rotating presidency. It highlighted conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, in addition to Indo-Pacific security and the ongoing violent in Haiti and Sudan.  Italy has the G7 presidency; which rotates with the other member states: United States, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, and Britain.
