The injured Catholic Priest, who was attacked in his Rectory, after celebrating Sunday Holy Mass, has died on November 9th. Father Prelate Lech Lachowicz was fighting for his life in hospital after a man attacked him with an ax. The priest was brutally beaten by a 27-year-old, now in police custody, on Sunday November 3rd.
The attacked took place in the rectory of Saint Brother Albert's parish in Szczytno (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship) and was reported to the police. The 72-year-old parish priest, Monsignor Lech Lachowicz, had been the Honorary Chaplain of Saint Pope John Paul the second in 2001.
The Chairman of the Polish Episcopal Conference expressed his condolences after the death of Reverend Prelate Lech LachowiczThe chairman of the Polish Episcopal Conference, Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda, sent a message of condolence after the death of Father Prelate Lech Lachowicz to Archbishop Józef Górzyński, Metropolitan of the Archdiocese Warmia where the late priest served. He said, It is with sadness and great pain that I received the news of the tragic death of Father Prelate Lech Lachowicz, parish priest of the parish of Saint Brother Albert in Szczytno. In the hands of the Archbishop, I would like to express my condolences to all the loved ones of the deceased Father Prelate Lech – family, relatives, friends and parishioners of the parish where Father Lachowicz served.
The brutal beating, which ultimately led to death, requires unequivocal condemnation and punishment of the perpetrator. There is no place in a civilized and Christian society for acts of violence and brutality. The tragic death of Father Prelate Lech Lachowicz, is also a cry for forgiveness and mercy. From a human perspective, this death is meaningless and only Divine Mercy and the truth that God became man and died for us can give this death meaning. The Merciful God is the One who wants us to overcome evil with good.
I trust that Merciful Jesus will reward all the merits of the late Father Prelate Lech Lachowicz, and that He will forgive all the sins and weaknesses that he committed due to human frailty in His infinite Mercy.
