Attack on the Monastery of the Holy Spirit of the Mountain
Friars Minor Release:
Last Saturday, Nov. 9th, the convent of Santo Espíritu del Monte , located in Gilet, Valencia, Spain, and belonging to the Province of the Immaculate Conception, suffered a serious attack. An individual, who was later arrested by the Civil Guard, violently attacked five friars who reside in the convent. According to official sources, the aggressor is a consumer of various substances and was under their influence at the time of the events.
Sadly, one of our injured brothers, who was taken to hospital in critical condition, died today, Monday, Nov.11, due to head injuries. The Franciscan Province, his family and friends mourn this irreparable loss.
Two other friars are currently hospitalized , receiving medical attention for the injuries they suffered during the brutal attack. The remaining two, with less serious injuries, have already been discharged and are in the convent under observation and care.
We ask all our brothers and sisters in the faith to join us in praying for the soul of our dear deceased brother and for the speedy recovery of the friars who are still hospitalized or in distress. We also thank the Civil Guard for their prompt intervention and the local authorities and the medical staff for their attention at this delicate moment.
In these days of pain, we trust in the love and peace of Christ, our supreme good, He will give us the comfort and strength to overcome this tragedy.

Emergency communication
To all the brothers of the Province: May the Lord give you peace. With deep surprise and pain we received this morningthe news that a disturbed person entered the convent of Santo Espíritu del Monte (Gilet, Valencia) and started attacking the brothers who were in their room, with the intention
according to the perpetrator: The brothers heard to: "kill the friars"
With the exception of Brother Antonio Ivars Solbes, who was in the orchard and Brother Federico Allara Aragó, who was in the chaplaincy celebrating mass, the rest of the brothers have been violently attacked and we are concerned, above all, about the possible extent of the injuries of Brother Juan Antonio Llorente Espín, who seems to be the most damaged and with poor prospects, according to the news received. We condemn this aggression unreservedly and join in the suffering of our brothers, with injuries in the body and pain in the soul for what has been experienced, which, without a doubt, leaves deep mark on people. We also pray for the aggressor to be aware of the damage and be able toto rectify a behavior that is not at all characteristic of the human condition. This event is also asking all of us brothers to be more attentive.to prevent people who may cause harm from entering our fraternities of any kind, and so on knowing how to take care of each other.United with the brothers of the Holy Spirit of the Mountain, we ask the good God for his prompt recovery and that they can continue forward in their mission to be a living witness of the Gospel.
