At the Vatican press conference for the Jubilee 2025 events scheduled, which took place on October 28, at the Holy See Press Office, the most photographed character was Luce, the mascot of the Jubilee and of the Holy See Pavilion in Japan — a little pilgrim girl created with the aesthetics of manga, with muddy boots from walking and big eyes wide open to the world, full of light, — presented by Monsignor Rino Fisichella.
Alongside the Pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for Fundamental Questions of Evangelization in the World) were also Barbara Jatta, director of the Vatican Museums, and Davide Mambriani, curator of the Jubilee and Culture series for concerts and exhibitions. The construction sites, in recent months, have put the patience of the Romans to the test, commented Fisichella, but in this way the city will be able to show pilgrims its best side.
The Artist wrote on Instagram:
It’s an immense honor to announce a truly historic project for the Vatican 🤍💛. With indescribable joy I’d love to introduce to you “Luce ”, the very first Mascotte for a Jubilee, a special celebration the Church holds at least once every 25 years. It’s a year of pilgrimages, of a focus on the spiritual life.To be honest, I could never have imagined that I would bring my humble artistic contribution, pop-culture, kawaii-culture to the Holy See. I am extremely grateful to the Dicastery for Evangelization for opening its doors to my Art.
I grew up in my hometown Rome in a Catholic family, where I learned the principles of a faith grounded in generosity and respect for others.
In my work, I am fortunate to engage with the many cultures of the world, constantly searching for a contemporary and universal language that I strive to bring into my compositions.
The Jubilee is undoubtedly a unique opportunity for encounter and dialogue for millions of people, including many young people.
I hope that the pilgrim Luce and her traveling friends, can represent the sentiments that resonate in the hearts of the younger generations.
It’s a marvelous experience and a joyful light that I will bring within me for the rest of my Life.
Among other initiatives related to the Jubilee, the Dicastery for Evangelization signals its participation in the 2024 edition of the international comics and games fair Lucca Comics & Games with a space dedicated to the official mascot of the Jubilee: Luce & Friends. It is the first time - a press release states - that a Dicastery of the Holy See participates in the most important fair in Europe dedicated to comics, games, video games, animated films, fantasy fiction, illustration and TV series. For Monsignor Rino Fisichella it is an opportunity to introduce "the official mascot of the Jubilee, Luce, a symbol of hope and brotherhood, values that align perfectly with the theme of the festival"; a way to talk to young people about the theme of hope at the heart of the evangelical message. The Jubilee Pavilion, located at the Archbishopric of Lucca in Piazzale Monsignor Giulio Arrigoni 2, will be open to visitors from October 30 to November 3.Source: Vatican News Italian
