Pope Francis Returns Safely to the Vatican after his Longest Trip and Thanks Our Lady for a Successful Journey to Asia and Oceania

Pope Francis returned safely to the Vatican after the longest journey of his pontificate. He first stopped at the Basilica of St. Mary Major upon his return to Rome to thank the Blessed Virgin Mary for her protection throughout his 12-day Apostolic Journey.

His successful historic 12-day journey began on September 2nd until the 13th.   The pope visited countries in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea,   East Timor, and Singapore.

He encouraged the Catholic faithful to continue their journey and confirmed them in the faith,   inviting them to interreligious dialogue.   This concludes the longest trip of his pontificate; it lasted 12 days,   spanned four countries spread out in two continents,   with around 44 hours of fight time and some 32,000 km (19, 8883 miles) traveled.   During the flight back to Rome,   which lasted over 12 hours,   the pope answered questions from journalists.   Pope Francis at In-Flight Interview said Vote for "the lesser evil" in the US Election, he defended unborn life, and lamented the war in the Holy Land,   calling for peace.  
Upon his return to the Vatican from Fiumicino Airport on Friday, September 13th, Pope Francis stopped off for a brief visit to the Basilica of St. Mary Major.
The Pope made his traditional stop to pray for a moment at the feet of the ancient icon of Maria Salus Populi Romani, according to the Holy See Press Office.
He placed a bouquet of flowers on the altar in the Gregorian Chapel, expressing his gratitude for her maternal protection during his 12-day Apostolic Journey to Asia and Oceania.
Pope Francis then returned to his car, which took him to his residence at the Casa Santa Marta in the Vatican.
The Pope visited Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, and Singapore, making this the longest journey of his pontificate.
