The International Eucharistic Congress of Quito, Ecuador is over (See highlight Video at bottom). But the location for the 2028 Congress was revealed.
The 53rd International Eucharistic Congress concluded with a solemn Eucharistic celebration on the morning of this Sunday, September 15. In an atmosphere of fraternity and unity of the Church, the People of God, on pilgrimage in Ecuador, more than 25 thousand faithful filled the esplanade of the Bicentennial Park to participate in the Statio Orbis , presided over by Cardinal Baltazar Porras Cardoso, Pontifical Legate.
Since the early hours of this Sunday, September 15, hundreds of residents of the capital, Ecuadorians and visitors from other countries were filling the various spaces of the large Eucharistic field, while religious music and the official hymn of IEC 2024 were heard over the speakers.
In his homily, the Pontifical Legate highlighted the organization of this great meeting of the universal Church, around Jesus in the Eucharist. He thanked the Ecuadorian people and “the many brothers who have come from the four cardinal points” who “have traveled and drank from this land, bringing their experiences and taking with them the grateful example of the hospitality that is born from the Eucharist of the heart of Jesus.”
We have arrived “at the end of the fifty-third International Eucharistic Congress with our saddlebags full of rich testimonies filled with hope, with the certainty that the Eucharist and devotion to the Heart of Jesus will broaden the horizon of our lives to better serve a contradictory, wounded world, but redeemed in Christ, with the task of transfiguring it,” he said.
