Vatican Jubilee Updates that Pope Francis will Open 4 Holy Doors Including One in a Prison!

Note from the Dicastery for Evangelization, Section for Fundamental Questions of Evangelization in the World, 01.08.2024
With the approaching start of the Jubilee 2025, the question of being able to foresee the configuration and opening of the Holy Door in Cathedral Churches, in International and National Shrines, as well as in other particularly significant places of worship, has recently been raised.

In this regard, while taking into account the most sensitive pastoral and devotional motivations that may have suggested such a praiseworthy aspiration, it is nevertheless considered necessary to recall the precise indications established by the Holy Father in the Bull Spes non confundit, of Indiction of the Jubilee 2025, which indicates as the Holy Door that of the Basilica of Saint Peter and of the other three Papal Basilicas, namely Saint John Lateran, Saint Mary Major and Saint Paul Outside the Walls (see no. 6), with the exception of the desire expressed by the Holy Father to personally open a Holy Door in a prison "to offer prisoners a concrete sign of closeness" (see no. 10).
It is also well known that the peculiar and identifying sign of the Jubilee Year, as handed down since the first Jubilee of the year 1300, is the indulgence that "intends to express the fullness of God's forgiveness that knows no bounds" (see no. 23), through the Sacrament of Penance and the signs of charity and hope (see nos. 7-15).
Therefore, to fully experience this moment of grace, we urge you to refer to the particular places and different methods indicated by the Decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary of 13 May 2024.
