The Nicaraguan government closes Radio María
After blocking the bank accounts in April, the Executive of Managua has now canceled the legal personality of the station, which disappears from the country's airwaves after more than 40 years of broadcasting.
On July 9, the legal personality of Radio María, a station that has been broadcasting in the Central American country for more than 40 years, was canceled in Nicaragua. This was reported by the independent website Noticias.
The dissolution of Radio María, along with that of 12 other entities, was approved by the Minister of the Interior, María Amelia Coronel, and published in the official government newspaper 'La Gaceta de Nicaragua'.
To justify the measure, the Executive alleged that Radio María did not prepare a budget for the period 2019-2023, and that its management committee expired on November 8, 2021. The measure comes after the station announced the reduction of its hours of programming, from 24 to 14 hours, and after the freezing of his two bank accounts, which prevented him from receiving donations.
