A priest in Zaragoza, Spain died on April 4th at the Miguel Servet hospital as a consequence of serious burns suffered last weekend from a candle at the Easter vigil. The priest, Javier Sánchez, 60 years old, accidentally set his clothes on fire with a candle and had to be admitted urgently to the ICU, where he died. The event occurred in the convent of the Santa Isabel neighborhood, where the religious resided. Apparently, some type of accelerator was used to light the flame and it burned the habit he was wearing .
"The priest tried to protect the nuns of the convent when the fire broke out in the bowl that was used, the flames ignited the chasuble and the severity of the burns caused his death.  The celebration took place inside the convent", detailed sources from the Archbishopric.

We transmit the following statement that comes to us from Javi Sánchez's close environment
Javi Sánchez, priest of the Archdiocese of Zaragoza, died today, April 4, at dawn.
Parish priest of S. Gregorio, counselor of the Brotherhood of Humility and chaplain of the convent of the Franciscan Conceptionists of the Santa Isabel neighborhood, where he was going to celebrate the Easter Vigil.
He suffered a fire accident from which he has not been able to recover. There are many people and groups who mourn his death. The Christian community feels his loss deeply.
The family has expressed their desire to celebrate the funeral in privacy. It will be tomorrow, Friday, April 5, at 12:00 p.m. in the sisters' church where I was chaplain. It will be presided over by Mr. Carlos Escribano, archbishop of our Diocese.
That same day, on Friday at 5:00 p.m., there will be a farewell ceremony in the Parish of Santa Isabel, in the same neighborhood that was a neighbor for many years.
At the express wish of his family, we ask that all of you who wish to remember him and say goodbye join us in the afternoon celebration.
