Over 100 Monasteries in Spain to Open their Doors to the Public in Lent to "Slow down. Stop. Pray."

Slow down. Stop. Pray.
Spanish monasteries and convents call everyone this Lent to prayer.
The monastic communities united in a campaign promoted by the DeClausura Foundation, encourage society to rediscover the contemplative dimension of life and invite them to their Lenten prayer on March 7 at 7 pm.

Cloistered nuns and monks from all over Spain have come together to call for prayer in a campaign launched by the DeClausura Foundation on the occasion of this Lent . Benedictines, Augustinians, Camaldolese and Cistercians pray before the cameras the prayer that Christ taught us, an Our Father with which they invite society to slow down, stop and pray. They represent the 8328 contemplatives who live dedicated to prayer in 725 Spanish monasteries.
Lenten prayer in monasteries and convents
This call comes in the Year of Prayer declared by Pope Francis, “a year dedicated to rediscovering the great value and absolute necessity of prayer in personal life, in the life of the Church and in the world.”

Knowing the great value of monasteries and convents as schools of prayer. The DeClausura Foundation promotes a new initiative to facilitate the approach to God through contemplative communities. On Thursday, March 7 at 7 pm , more than one hundred monasteries throughout Spain will have the doors of their churches open to those who wish to join their community prayer.

This action, which will take place on the third Thursday of Lent, is in line with Pope Francis' message in which he states that “in Lent, acting is also stopping. Stop in prayer, to welcome the Word of God (…) Slow down and stop. The contemplative dimension of life, which Lent will make us rediscover, will mobilize new energies.”

These energies resulting from prayer have mobilized monastic communities from almost all Spanish provinces to join this prayer proposal: Poor Clares, Franciscan Conceptionists, Carmelites of the Ancient Observance, Discalced Carmelites, Augustinians, Coletines, Cistercians, Brigids, Benedictines, Canonesses , Salesas, Dominicas, Mercedarias, Jerónimas, Comendadoras…

Prayer network
On the other hand, through its prayer network, the DeClausura Foundation spiritually unites anyone with the cloistered monks and nuns. Every Sunday it sends the intentions and prayer requests formulated through its website to more than 600 monastic communities.

This campaign by the DeClausura Foundation has been produced with the collaboration of Variopinto, the production company of Santos Blanco, director of the film LIBRES shot in 12 monasteries and convents in Spain (and now available on Movistar+).
