How to React to the Magisterium? Theologian Michael Lofton Explains Why We Should Stop Constantly Criticizing the Magisterium on "Reason & Theology"
A popular US theologian Michael Lofton suggests that it is not Catholic to constantly criticize the Magisterium
US theologian Michael Lofton from his show "Reason & Theology" believes that many Catholics adhere to the "spirit of Protestantism" attach and many "theological" are not in a position to criticize the magisterium.
“How should we respond to the Magisterium?” The US theologian Michael Lofton made an interesting contribution to the discussion on his YouTube channel “Reason & Theology” deals with the problems that so many currently have a problem with the teaching office.
He believes it is not Catholic to constantly criticize and constantly disagree with the Magisterium. “This is not Catholicism and not the traditional Catholic position. That is the spirit of Protestantism.” Lofton fears that many Catholics have this “Protestant spirit” within them. The theologian believes that most Catholics are not “theologically” capable of criticizing the Magisterium. Most are unable to find relevant theological documents at all. You have to be aware that the teaching profession is the teacher and we are the students and not the other way around. “We can’t tell the Magisterium what’s going on.”
Lofton also points out that it is possible, under certain conditions, to commit a “grave sin” by publicly disagreeing with the Church’s teaching. This is "traditional" teaching. Pope Pius X, among others, taught this. The theologian then also reminds us that the church, even if it does not proclaim an infallible doctrine, speaks with the “voice of Jesus”. This is what Pius XII said. taught. “If you constantly question everything about the Magisterium, then it is directed against Jesus,” said Lofton, and then reminded us again of Pope Pius X. “Someone is not holy if he disagrees with the Pope.”
