Catholic Bishop Jamal Daibes, Patriarchal Vicar for Latins in Jordan, delivers a speech at the prayer vigil with hundreds in attendance. On Tuesday evening, October 31, the Latin Patriarchal Vicariate of Jordan held a prayer and a candlelight vigil at Our Lady of Nazareth Church's square with the participation of hundreds of worshipers for stopping the aggression against Gaza, for peace in all of Palestine, and in support of His Majesty the King’s diplomatic and humanitarian efforts.
FULL TEXT: Dear brothers and beloved sons,
We gather today to raise prayers for peace in Gaza. We raise our voices to God. If the world does not hear the screams of the suffering people and does not see the pain of the people of Gaza, then we raise these prayers to God who hears their screams and does not neglect their pain. As God said to Moses on the mountain: “For I have seen the affliction of my people, and I have heard their cry because of their tempters, and I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them.” It is God who hears, sees, and knows, and it is to Him that we turn today.
This is what we stand for, and we add our voices to the voices of many peace-loving voices. God the Creator is the father of all creation, He is the one who gave us life, and He is the one who wants His children to live in peace and brotherhood. And Jesus Christ who came so that we might have life and have it abound in us. Although we feel the pain of what is happening in Gaza, we will not surrender to hatred, violence, or despair. God is our peace, our hope, and we seek refuge in Him in our distress.
Our prayers today address the Virgin Mary, asking her for peace: And with His Holiness Pope Francis, who prayed this prayer last Friday, we say: Mary, look at us! We are here in front of you. You are a mother, and you know our hardships and wounds. You, Queen of Peace, suffer with us and for us, when you see your many children afflicted by conflicts and suffering because of the wars tearing the world apart. This is a dark hour, mother. In this dark hour, we appear before your luminous eyes, entrusting ourselves to your heart that knows and feels our problems.
And now too, take the initiative, O Mother, in these times torn by conflict and destroyed by weapons. Turn your merciful gaze upon the human family, which has strayed from the path of peace, preferred Cain over Abel, and lost its sense of brotherhood. Intercede for our world, which is threatened by danger and destruction. Teach us to receive life and care for it, and to reject the madness of war that sows death and erases the future .
Therefore, O Mother of God and our Mother, we come to you and seek refuge in your Immaculate Heart. We ask for mercy, O Mother of Mercy, and we ask for peace, O Queen of Peace! Move the souls of those who are trapped in hatred, and change the hearts of those who fuel and incite conflicts. Wipe the tears of children, help the lonely and the elderly, be a support to the wounded and sick, protect those who have had to leave their land and their dearest loved ones, console the discouraged, and awaken hope .
Oh mother, open horizons of light in the night of conflicts. Inspire leaders of nations to find ways of peace. You, Lady of all peoples, reconcile your children, who have been controlled by evil and blinded by power and hatred. You, who have compassion for everyone, teach us to care for others. You, who show us God's tenderness, make us witnesses of His consolation. You, Queen of Peace, pour into our hearts peace like the peace of God. Amen .

Our prayer is a renewal of our faith that God created all human beings equal, creating them in His image and likeness, granting them life and dignity, and no human being has the right to take this life and dignity away from a human being. No one has the right to deny the livelihood of innocent people, by cutting off food, water, electricity, fuel, and communications. No one has the right to discriminate between people, and more than two million people are treated inhumanely. By standing today, and with our prayers, we defend human humanity, the right of every human being to live and live in dignity. What is happening in the Gaza Strip is a defeat for human and religious values, and it cannot be justified in any way, just as it is not permissible to justify any attack on innocent people or discrimination between man and man.
With our leadership in Jordan, we say: Let us say no to war , let us say no to killing, let us unite for peace and justice, and let us stand with life, with justice, and with peace, against this war in Gaza, and the humanitarian catastrophe it is causing. As His Majesty King Abdullah bin Al Hussein said: The only way to a secure future for the people of the Middle East and the entire world begins with the belief that every human life is of equal value .This is what we stand for, and we add our voices to the voices of many peace-loving voices.
