Vatican Announces that Pope Francis' Peace Envoy - Cardinal Zuppi will also Visit China for 3 days

 

The Holy See Press Office announced on September 12th that Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, the Archbishop of Bologna, will visit Beijing, China, on 13-15 September 2023. Cardinal Matteo Zuppi is set to make a 3-day visit to China as Pope Francis’ special envoy to seek peace in Ukraine.
The Cardinal will make the visit in his role as Pope Francis’ special envoy to seek peace in Ukraine.

“The visit forms as another step of the mission desired by the Pope to sustain humanitarian initiatives and to seek paths that may lead to a just peace,” read the Press Office statement.
Cardinal Zuppi was in Berlin, Germany, to participate in the “Audacity of Peace” meeting, hosted by the St. Egidio Community. The Cardinal emphasized the importance of working towards a just and secure peace, in his discussion with journalists.
Peace, he said, requires the effort of everyone, but "it is never something that can be imposed by anyone; it must be the peace chosen by Ukrainians with the guarantees, commitment and effort of everyone.”
Cardinal Zuppi had previously traveled to Kyiv on 5-6 June, Moscow on 28-29 June, and Washington on 17-19 July.
