WATCH a Free Catholic Movie "The House of Happiness" on the Life of Mother Maria Domenica Mazzarello

The House of Happiness, the film on Mother Maria Domenica Mazzarello: On the occasion of the 140 years of the foundation of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, many initiatives will be carried out. Among these events, one assumes particular importance: the making of the film on the life and work of Maria Domenica Mazzarello.

 Sr. Caterina Cangià, who had the responsibility of overseeing the design, production, and screenplay of the film explains : “ The figure of Maria Domenica Mazzarello, unlike that of Don Bosco who is a widely known icon, is little known.  Thus was born the idea of creating a film “that spoke to ordinary people, one that told of the meaning of the life of Maria Mazzarello, a life of rich, interpersonal relationships, and of the daily joy that flowed from the little gestures of a simple life.” Those working in the field of cinema know that shooting a film is not an easy undertaking, especially if one has not had to deal with a certain level of production. Yes, because “Main. The House of Happiness”, the title of the film, is not a simple documentary, but a film produced according to cinema standards, with direction by Simone Spada, a director of note, and with the photographic expertise of Alessandro Pesci, who was awarded the Silver Ribbon Award 2011. The film tells of the entire life of Maria Domenica Mazzarello, which, in the narration, is subdivided into four sequences that go from the time of her childhood to the time of her life as an FMA. The screenplay was written with the intent of being as faithful as possible to her life and actual events, and in doing so it has drawn from not only historical material relating to the saint, such as her biography and personal letters, but also from historical material regarding four fundamental figures in the life of Main: her childhood friend Petronilla, Emilia Mosca, Enrichetta Sorbone, and Caterina Daghero, who would succeed Maria Domenica after her death. In this way it was possible to see from a 360 degree angle the first FMA community that gave strength to the Institute. Love for Jesus and for one’s dear ones, relationships with others, and the educational passion are three elements that characterize and offer the key to reading the film.
