RIP Father José de Sousa Carvalho - Missing Catholic Priest Found Dead in Brazil

Father José de Sousa Carvalho, missing for more than a week, was found dead and in an advanced state of decomposition this Saturday, near the MG-431 highway in Itaúna. The 61-year-old religious man was last seen on August 4, when he left home driving a car and never returned.
According to the Military Police, the body was found on the edge of a stream on the sides of the road in stretch that connects Itatiaiuçu and Itaúna. The body was partially naked and police were unable to identify, but the death is suspected to have occurred more than two days ago.
The Diocese of Oliveira, where Father José de Sousa Carvalho was registered, issued a obituary note, informing that the priest was buried this Sunday at the Cemetery Parque Nossa Senhora das Dores, in Itaguara, Brazil.

The priest, known as Father Carvalho, has already worked in Itaguara, Santana do Jacaré and Ribeirão Vermelho. He had been out of the activity since 2020 to focus on his father's medical care.
