Pope Francis as the Oldest Traveling Pontiff Entrusts his Historic Journey to Our Lady while Asking the Faithful to Pray for his 1st Trip to Mongolia
Pope Francis made his customary visit to the Basilica of St. Mary Major to pray and entrust his Apostolic Journey to Mongolia under the protection of Our Lady. This marks the 1st time a pope has visited Mongolia and Pope Francis at age 86 is the eldest pope to travel abroad.
Pope Francis traveled to Rome's Basilica of St. Mary Major on Wednesday August 30th for brief stop visit.
This is the 111th time the Holy Father has visited the Papal Basilica to pray at the icon before, or after his return from, an Apostolic Journey.
The Pope took a moment to pray before the ancient icon of Maria Salus Populi Romani, according to the Holy See Press Office.
He entrusted his upcoming Apostolic Journey to Mongolia to the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Holy Father departs on Thursday, the 31th of August, for Ulaanbaatar and returns to Rome on Monday, the 4th of September.
He also asked the faithful to pray for his journey.
