 Pope Francis meets Angola's new Ambassador to the Holy See in the Apostolic Palace, at the Vatican. The new Ambassador, Mr. Carlos Alberto Saraiva de Carvalho Fonseca, presented his credentials to the Pope, which include a law degree from a Russian university and international experience in conflict resolution.

He also introduced the Pope to his family.

Pope Francis said, Beautiful family. A beautiful family.

Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, recently returned from a trip to the southern African country. He traveled there to attend the ordination of the first Angolan nuncio; Archbishop Germano Penemote.  Cardinal Parolin even said the Pope may visit there soon.

Parolin said, "I believe that the Pope is very interested in a trip to Angola. There has already been talk of a possibility that he might be here on a future trip to Africa."

Catholicism was introduced to Angola by the Portuguese in 1491 when the first missionaries arrived. Demographics  As of 2020, approximately 53.85% of the population (34.5 Million) professed the Catholic faith.
