Pope Francis Announces the Next World Youth Day will be in South Korea

Dear brothers and sisters,one word has resounded many times these days: "thank you", or rather, "obrigado". It is beautiful what the Patriarch of Lisbon has just told us, namely that obrigado not only expresses gratitude for what has been received, but also the desire to repay the good. All of us, in this event of grace, have received and now the Lord makes us feel the need, returning home, to share and give in turn, joyfully witnessing God's gratuity, what God has placed in our hearts.
But before sending you I would also like to say obrigado. First of all to Cardinal Clemente, and with him to the Church and to the entire Portuguese people: Obrigado. Obrigado to Mr. President, who has accompanied us in the events of these days; obrigado to national and local institutions for the support and assistance provided; obrigado to bishops, priests, consecrated persons and lay people; and obrigado to you, Lisbon, who will remain in the memory of these young people as a "house of fraternity" and "city of dreams"!

I then express great gratitude to Cardinal Farrell, who has rejuvenated in these Days, and to those who have prepared these Days, as well as to those who have accompanied them with prayer. Obrigado to the volunteers, to whom a heartfelt applause goes for the great service they have done! Special thanks to those who watched over WYD from above, i.e. to the patron saints of the event: one above all, John Paul II, who gave life to the World Youth Days.
And obrigado to all of you, dear young people! God sees all the good that you are, He alone knows what he has sown in your hearts. You leave here with what God has sown in your heart. Take care of it and let it grow. I would like to make a recommendation: remember it, fix the most beautiful moments in your mind and heart, because in this way, when some inevitable moment of fatigue and discouragement arrives, and perhaps the temptation to stop along the way or to withdraw into yourself, with the memory revive the experiences and the grace of these days, because - never forget this - this is reality, this is you: the faithful holy People of God walking in the joy of the Gospel! I also wish to send a greeting to the young people who have not been able to be here, but have participated in initiatives organized by their countries, by the Bishops' Conferences, by the Dioceses; I am thinking, for example, of the sub-Saharan brothers and sisters gathered in Tangier. Thank you all, thank you!
In particular, we accompany with love and prayer those who have not been able to come because of conflicts and wars. In the world there are many wars, there are many conflicts. Thinking of this continent, I feel great pain for dear Ukraine, which continues to suffer greatly. Friends, allow me too, now an old man, to share with you young people a dream that I carry inside: it is the dream of peace, the dream of young people who pray for peace, live in peace and build a future of peace. Through the Angelus we place the future of humanity in the hands of Mary, Queen of Peace.
And there is one last obrigado that I would like to underline at the end: obrigado to our roots, to our grandparents, who passed on the faith to us, who passed on to us the horizon of a life. They are our roots. And, returning home, continue to pray for peace. You are a sign of peace to the world, a testimony of how different nationalities, languages, histories can unite rather than divide. You are the hope of a different world. Thanks for this. After you!
And in the end there is a meeting for young people from all over the world in 2025 in Rome, to celebrate the Jubilee for young people together! I look forward to seeing you in 2025 to celebrate the Jubilee of young people together. And the next World Youth Day will take place in Asia: it will be in South Korea, in Seoul! Thus, in 2027, it will move from the western border of Europe to the Far East: this is a beautiful sign of the universality of the Church and of the dream of unity of which you are witnesses!
Finally, one last obrigado. We address it to two special people, the main protagonists of this meeting. They have been here with us, but they are always with us, they do not lose sight of our lives, they love our lives like no one else: obrigado a Te, Signore Gesù; obrigado to you, our Mother Mary. And now let's pray together.

I would like to assure you of my prayers, and we also do it together, for the victims of the tragic avalanche that occurred two days ago in the region of Racha, in Georgia. And I accompany the family members with my closeness, may the Holy Virgin console them and also support the work of the rescue teams. I accompany and am close to my brother, Patriarch Elijah II.
