Construction on the Largest Religious Statue in the World Takes Shape in Brazil :
The Basilica of Saint Michael Archangel, whose parish's 136 year anniversary of canonical creation was on January 11, 2022, launched an innovative project not only for devotees of the Archangel, but also for their Basilica. The project was presented to the local community on December 12th at the Holy Mass celebrated by Dom Gorgônio Alves da Encarnação Neto, diocesan bishop.
It was inspired by the Cave of the Archangel, a thematic building of the Sanctuary of Monte Gargano, located in southern Italy, where the Archangel Saint Michael made 4 appearances. This new Church to be built will be very similar to the Italian Sanctuary.
How will it be?
The Grotto will have 4 floors:
The statue will be 48 meters tall - Ground floor: church with capacity for 400 people; on the outside there will be a bell tower, a wake, the Basilica's official store, a staircase, elevators and toilets.
1st floor: Room of Miracles, Museum of Sacred Art and Presbytery for Campal Mass. 2nd floor: administrative sector.
3rd floor: Viewpoint and Statue of São Miguel Archangel.
The statue of Saint Miguel Archangel, counting from the ground floor, will reach approximately 48 meters in height.
Outside the Church, the project also has:SQUARE for outdoor Mass and events, with capacity for approximately 12,000 people (6,200 m 2 ).
CROWN OF SÃO MIGUEL: space reserved for the faithful to pray the Crown of São Miguel in front of sculptures that recall the angelic hierarchy (1,100 m 2 ).
DANCING WATERS/WATER MIRROR: Attractive element, strategically located, with water jets synchronized with music and night lighting (500 m 2 ).
The project also features: CIRCULATION, VISITORS EMBARKATION/DISAMBARKATION AND PARKING ACCESS: Areas that unite and make up the set (5,400m 2 ).
PARKING: With 14,000 m 2 and capacity for 550 cars.
COMMERCIAL SECTOR: space intended for various businesses to serve the faithful throughout the year (600 m 2 ).
AREA FOR EXPANSION: About 5,000 m 2 will be reserved for future expansion of this religious complex.
All of this will be built on the 30,000 m² plot that a blessed family generously donated to the Basilica of San Miguel Archangel.
