Pope Francis Receives John Kerry Just a Month after Meeting with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy at the Vatican - VIDEO
Pope Francis has returned to a full schedule after his operation and hospital stay. The Pope met with American politician and diplomat John Kerry, who is serving as the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.
This is just over a month after his meeting with the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.
Kerry gave Pope Francis a gift of books by an American marine biologist and author on environmental harm, an issue he believes can only be resolved if all people work together.
The pope said, "There is one thing I always think about: that you can only look down at a person from above to help them and lift them up."
John Kerry thanked Pope Francis; "Holy Father thank you so much, so special to see you. I really appreciate this relationship."
On May 4th, in the Apostolic Palace, Pope Francis met with the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.
McCarthy presented Pope Francis with a commemorative plate.
Pope Francis returned the gesture, giving the Speaker of the House a metal statue of an olive branch as a sign of peace.
At the end of the meeting, the Pope gave McCarthy a medal celebrating his 10 years as successor to St. Peter before asking for his prayers.
The pope asked McCarthy to pray for him.

For years, Pope Francis has championed greater global climate ambition - and his Laudato Si’ remains a landmark call to protect God’s creation.
