Dutch Cardinal Makes Official Request for Papal Encyclical on Gender

During the ad limina visit of the Dutch bishops, Cardinal Eijk officially submitted his request to the Pope to the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. Vatican.
"Gender theory is being promoted in all sorts of organizations, and we as a church have not said much about it," said Dutch Cardinal Wim Eijk, Archbishop of Utrecht. This was according to the Catholic "Katholiek Nieuwsblad".
The cardinal was in Rome last week with the Dutch bishops for an ad limina visit, when he made this request to Pope Cardinal Kevin Farell, Prefect of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. During one of the working visits of the Dutch bishops to the institutions of the Vatican he officially presented the request to the Roman Curia. Eijk has long warned of the dangers of gender theory. In 2016, he said that gender theory is "spreading all over the western world and we have to warn people". Catholics, too, would "accept the radical ideology in a very simple manner, even parents, simply because they hear nothing else". But it is "clear from a moral-theological point of view: one must not change one's gender in this way".
With his request for intensive criticism of gender theory, the cardinal invites the Pope to comment. Pope Francis often calls this “gender ideology”. However, Eijk had already raised his request for a gender-critical papal encyclical or a similar magisterium in 2016.
