Did You Know that October is Dedicated to the Rosary? PRAY the Rosary During October and Come Closer to Jesus and Mary!
October is the Month of the Holy Rosary:
The Rosary is a prayer which is largely derived from scripture. During the Rosary Christians meditate on the life of Jesus Christ during key events mentioned in the bible. There are 5 Joyful Mysteries focusing on the Birth and youth of Jesus, 5 Sorrowful Mysteries on his sufferings, 5 Glorious on Jesus' triumph over death and Mary's assumption, and 5 Luminous Mysteries (added by Pope John Paul II) on the public Ministry of Jesus during his life. Here are what some Saints and Popes said of the Rosary:
“Give me an army saying the Rosary and I will conquer the world.” – Blessed Pope Pius IX 3. “The greatest method of praying is to pray the Rosary.” – Saint Francis de Sales
“The Rosary is the most excellent form of prayer and the most efficacious means of attaining eternal life. It is the remedy for all our evils, the root of all our blessings. There is no more excellent way of praying.” Pope Leo XIII
“Go to the Madonna. Love her! Always say the Rosary. Say it well. Say it as often as you can! Be souls of prayer. Never tire of praying, it is what is essential. Prayer shakes the Heart of God, it obtains necessary graces!” -St. Padre Pio

Legend has attributed that the 1st person to preach and teach the Rosary was St. Dominic. It is also believed that Heaven has on many occasions rewarded the faith of those who had recourse to this devotion in times of special danger. More particularly, the naval victory of Lepanto gained by Don John of Austria over the Turkish fleet on the first Sunday of October in 1571 responded wonderfully to the processions made at Rome on that same day by the members of the Rosary confraternity. St. Pius V thereupon ordered that a commemoration of the Rosary should be made upon that day, and at the request of the Dominican Order Gregory XIII in 1573 allowed this feast to be kept in all churches which possessed an altar dedicated to the Holy Rosary. In 1671 the observance of this festival was extended by Clement X to the whole of Spain, and somewhat later Clement XI after the important victory over the Turks gained by Prince Eugene on 6 August, 1716 (the feast of our Lady of the Snows), at Peterwardein in Hungary, commanded the feast of the Rosary to be celebrated by the universal Church.Edited from the Catholic Encyclopedia
