Wow a New Hollywood Movie 'The Pope's Exorcist' about Fr. Gabriele Amorth will Star Actor Russell Crowe
A new Hollywood film about Father Gabriele Amorth called, 'The Pope's Exorcist' will be in theaters next year. The Hollywood Reporter, explained that Russell Crowe, one of the most famous actors who won an Oscar with Gladiator, will play the leading role. The New Zealander will play the role of the Italian exorcist.
Father Gabriele Amorth (1925 – 2016) who was the Vatican exorcist and performed nearly 100,000 exorcisms, is the subject of a new film. Hollywood has already decided portray the life of the most experienced exorcist known.
Fr. Amorth died at the age of 91, having performed exorcisms since being chosen for the task in 1985, and was the founder of the International Association of Exorcists in 1990.
He said, "It is the devil who, by the grace of God, begins to tremble when he sees me appearing."
The Pope's Exorcist, a thriller, is directed by Julius Avery, the director of Overlord, a horror film set in World War II. Production is expected to start in September.
The Pope's Exorcist is produced by Screen Gems, which acquired the rights to the life story of Father Amorth by Michael Patrick Kaczmarek. This deal included the rights to Amorth's two internationally acclaimed memoirs, An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories.
Julius Avery will direct The Exorcist of the Pope from a screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and the Beast, Pray for No ), which was adapted by Chuck MacLean. The screenplay is based on original drafts by Chester Hastings and R. Dean McCreary, revised by Michael Petroni.
Scott Strauss, Michael Bitar and Giselle Johnson are overseeing this project for Screen Gems. The film is being produced by Michael Patrick Kaczmarek with his company Jesus & Mary, Loyola President Eddie Siebert, 2.0 Entertainment's Doug Belgrade and Worldwide Katz's Jeff Katz.
It wouldn't be the first time Amorth has appeared on the big screen. In 2018, William Friedkin, who directed the 1972 film The Exorcist, considered by many to be the best horror film in history, presented the documentary The Devil and Father Amorth, which chronicled an actual exorcism session held by the man in May 2016 , who was the official exorcist of Rome for thirty-one years.
