#BreakingNews WATCH Live Pope Francis Travels to Northern Iqaluit and Meets with Indigenous Survivors on Penitential Pilgrimage in Canada


  • On Friday, was the Holy Father’s meeting with First Nations survivors of Indian Residential Schools will bring together 22 delegates from Eastern Canada.
    • The delegates represent the following regions and nations (nations may have more than one delegate):
    • - Mi’kmaq Nation, Algonquin Nation, Mohawk Nation, Cree Nation, Innu Nation, Atikamekw Nation, Malecite Nation, Abenaki Nation, Naskapi Nation

  • The host broadcaster will air the speech of the Holy Father at the beginning of the meeting. Cameras/media will then leave the room to allow for a private exchange between delegates and the Holy Father.
 
Departure from Québec
 
  • Following the meeting, the Holy Father will travel with the motorcade to the Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport. He has completed the Québec portion of his pilgrimage of healing, reconciliation and hope.
 
  • Similar to his departure from Edmonton, Alberta, as the Holy Father continues his journey within the country, there is no formal departure ceremony. The motorcade will arrive at the airport, the Holy Father’s vehicle will move to the tarmac and he is transported by ambulift into the ITA Airways A330 aircraft. The papal entourage and traveling media are on board before the Holy Father. The journey to Iqaluit will take approximately 3 hours and 5 minutes, a distance of 2,033 km.
