Pauline Jaricot was beatified in Lyon, France, in front of 12,000 believers. At the beatification ceremony in Lyon, Cardinal Tagle paid tribute to the "universal love and passion" of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith founder.
Pauline Jaricot (1799-1862) , French entrepreneur's daughter and founder of the aid organization Missio, was beatified in Lyon on Sunday.

According to local media reports, around 12,000 Catholics attended the ceremony. The celebration was led by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of the Philippines. The prefect of the Vatican Missionary Authority highlighted Jaricot's "universal love and passion" for Jesus and the poor.
Pope Francis had previously paid tribute to the life and work of the founder. At Sunday noon prayers in St. Peter's Square, he praised her "universal vision of the Church's mission." In 1819, at the age of 20, Lyon-born Jaricot started the first official Catholic lay movement for missionary work. Two years after it was founded, on May 3, 1822, it became the "Association for the Propagation of the Faith". Pope Pius XI declared it 100 years later, in 1922, to one of the four papal works that report directly to the head of the Catholic Church. Altogether there are Pontifical Mission Societies in more than 140 countries. She also founded the Association of the Living Rosary.
