RIP Deirdre McQuade - Death of a Pro-Life Hero after a Battle with Cancer at Age 53

On April 21, 2022, a pro-life heroine, Deirdre McQuade died at the age of 53 after fighting breast cancer four years. Deirdre served as spokeswoman at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops or over 12 years where she concentrated on abortion and end-of-life issues. How fitting then that days before her own death during chemotherapy treatment, Deirdre was able to impress hospital staff with her faith and hopefulness. In her final days she promoted the Litany of Trust prayer, written by a Sister of Life and submitted herself peacefully to the eventuality of either physical healing or death. 

During her life, Deirdre used her talents as art student and masters graduate in philosophy and theology to promote the defense of life. She became a counselor at the pregnancy care center in South Bend. She also served as Director of Pastoral Research and Outreach in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend and as National Program Director at Feminists for Life, which specializes in research and educating the public.

She served as devoted example of Catholic leadership working selflessly for their faith. We pray that her soul may be received into the Lord's kingdom.
