Former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick the Ex-Archbishop of Washington DC is accused by a man of having sexually abused him in the 1970s. McCarrick was removed from the priesthood in 2018
The former Archbishop of Washington DC, Theodore Cardinal McCarrick (archive photo), is accused of triple sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy in the 1970s . McCarrick was removed from the priesthood by the Vatican in 2018 after considerable allegations. The now 91-year-old has publicly admitted no guilt to this day. According to civil law, allegations of abuse against him can often no longer be prosecuted due to the statute of limitations. The alleged assaults in Wellesley did not become statute-barred, however, as he was not a resident of Massachusetts and the statute of limitations ended when he left the state.
According to the "Boston Globe", McCarrick was the monsignor and secretary of Cardinal Terence Cooke at the time of the alleged sexual assault. He lived in the rectory at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. The name of the victim is not known, the alleged victim does not want to be named. The victim testifies that when he was 16, he was sexually assaulted during his brother's wedding reception at Wellesley College. McCarrick was a family friend who often traveled with his loved ones. The priest had sexually abused him in New Jersey, New York, California and Massachusetts.
According to the Boston Globe, the alleged victim told police that McCarrick had told him his father wanted the two of them to "have a conversation" because the teenager was stubborn at home and apparently did not want to go to church. He said McCarrick, who the alleged victim said had repeatedly molested him in the past. The plaintiff said he did not want to make a scene at his brother's wedding. He was later sexually abused twice more by McCarrick.
