On Saturday, August 15th, 2020 Archbishop Michel Aupetit of Paris, France led a solemn mass in the Sacré-Coeur Basilica on Montmartre on the occasion of the solemnity of the "Assumption." After the Mass he joined in a Dedication prayer for France to the united hearts of Jesus and Mary. In the text, human isolation during the pandemic and his concern about the most recent decisions (bioethics laws) in the French Parliament were mentioned in particular. Also, mentioned during the prayers was babies that have been aborted.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
on this day, on which we celebrate the Assumption of Your Holy Mother into Heaven, we want to dedicate ourselves to your Sacred Heart, from which the love of God arose and is united with the painful and immaculate heart of your Mother, the Most Holy Virgin Mary .
We dedicate and entrust our lives, our families, our living and our dead and our city of Paris to your united hearts . In this time of epidemic and insecurity that threatens the most isolated and the most fragile, in this time of struggle for respect for life and the dignity of the family, we ask you for the courage of faith and the strength of Charity, to witness in the midst of the world your victorious love over evil.
Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, and in response to the invitation of Pope Saint John Paul II 40 years ago, we ask you to strengthen and consolidate France in this basilica of the “national vow” so that it is fidelity to Covenant with eternal wisdom rediscovered for the good of all people and all of creation, which "waits for the revelation of the sons of God" and "is in birth pangs" (Romans 8:19 and 8:22).
We give you our whole life, you who is "the way, the truth and the life", as Mary gave herself in response to the angel's announcement: "Here is the Lord's maid" (Lk 1:38), and how you gave yourself when you came into the world: "Here I am, I come, O God, to do your will" (Hebr. 10: 9). We ask you, on the intercession of your mother and Saint Joseph, who was named “Patron of the Universal Church” 150 years ago , to bless and protect our Church, to make it more passionate and missionary, to show your Divine Mercy on all allow. "Jesus, I trust in you". By the grace of Ascension, you shared with your mother in the victory of your resurrection and glorified her in her body and soul, a sign of our future glory that already shines in us. Bless us through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, ward off all sin and evil from us, and through the joy of the children of God transfigure us to the glory and praise of our Father. Amen.
When Archbishop Aupetit spoke of the basilica of the “national vow”, his words refer to the fact that the Sacré-Coeur church, consecrated to the heart of Jesus, was built as a “national atonement church” (foundation stone laid in 1875).
