Jorge Bergoglio became the 266th Pope on March 13, 2013. His first words as pontiff: “buona sera.” He was born on December 17, 1936 (age 83 years), in Flores, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The pope has completed 32 apostolic trips during his pontificate, and hopes to visit Iraq and South Sudan. He has a confirmed trip to Malta in May, 2020.
