65 Swaziland girls died in a truck crash while travelling to the royal festival. The Kingdom of Swaziland is in Southern Africa. It is neighbored by Mozambique and South Africa. The population - is estimated at 1,119,000; with 83% of the population being Christian. The truck crash in Swaziland on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 claimed the lives of girls and young women traveling to an annual dance festival. At the festival one virgin girl of 40, 000 is to be picked as the king’s newest bride. Swaziland Solidarity Network reported.
The girls were in an open truck to cut reeds for the Umhlanga Reed Dance.
“We can now confirm that 65 young girls have perished on that accident even those that we admitted which earlier on were reported critically injured. We want to extend our deepest [condolences] to their families,” the report said. It had been reported that 38 people were killed in a crash.The truck smashed into a van and was then struck by another truck between the Swazi cities of Mbabane and Manzini. The Reed Dance festival is held every year and honoring the Queen Mother in Swaziland. In the Royal Village, the girls sing and dance for eight days. During the ceremony, King Mswati (his 14th wife) chooses a new wife from among the women attending. Please Pray for the victims and their families....
