(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has learnt of the tragic death of three of his relatives in a traffic accident in Argentina and is "profoundly saddened." The Director of the Holy See’s Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi said the Pope had received news of the tragic accident and asks that "all those who share in his grief join with him in prayer." Press reports from Argentina identified the victims as the wife of the Pope’s nephew and her two young children.
UPDATE JCE: The Car crash in Argentina killed 3 members of Pope's family - 8-month-old and 2-year-old grand-nephews and their mother -- Emanuel Horacio Bergoglio was seriously injured. Car was driven by the pope's nephew Emanuel Horacio Bergoglio struck a truck on a highway in Cordoba.
Antonio aged 8 months and Jose aged 2, along with their mother 39 year old mother, Valeria Carmona.
Emanuel Horacio Bergoglio, 35, is in a hospital in serious condition. He is the son of the Pope's late brother, Alberto Bergoglio.
The car carrying the family was travelling between Cordoba and Rosario when it struck a truck loaded with corn.
