ELDORET, October 26, 2012 (CISA) -The chair of National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), Dr Mzalendo Kibunjia has called on Kenyans to live peacefully in their Counties irrespective of their tribal or political affiliations.
“If you look at places where there is diversity there is more development than those places that are homogeneous. Nairobi and Eldoret are good examples of these, they are cosmopolitan and they have the face of Kenya. This should be an added advantage to the county government. You shall be taking the wrong direction if you chase people away who do not belong to your county,” he stressed.
He said that there is emerging a trend on hate speech towards women which should stop. “We are working with the police to make sure that we stem this trend as women campaign. The situation is severe particularly in communities that have little respect for the women.”
Mzalendo urged all to desist from violence during the next general elections reminding people that they should not forget what happened in 2007/2008, the Post-Elections Violence.
Mr Morris Odhiambo, Executive Director, Centre for Law and Research International (CLARION) wondered why there has always been violence during elections. “This should forever change and peace prevails. Go out and preach peace and harmonious co-existence between our communities. What happened in 2007 should never ever happen again. Peace!”
The two made the remarks at an open-air exhibition by civil society organizations at the Eldoret Park during the just concluded Civil Society Week whose theme was Devolution: The Promise of 2013 Elections.
The exhibition was opened by Eldoret West District commissioner Mr Christopher Wanjau.
