AFRICA : GUINEA BISSAU : THOUSANDS ATTEND ORDINATION OF BISHOP

Agenzia Fides REPORT - Thousands of faithful of the Diocese of Bissau and Bafata, in Guinea-Bissau, attended on Saturday morning, November 12, the Episcopal Ordination of Mgr. José Lampra Cá, elected Auxiliary Bishop of Bissau on May 13. Archbishop José Camnaté Na Bissign, Bishop of Bissau presided the ceremony, con-celebrated with Bishop of Bafatá, His Exc. Mgr. Pedro Carlos Zilli, PIME, and the Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency Monsignor Luis Mariano Montemayor. In addition to nearly all the Bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Senegal, the ceremony was also attended by the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Ziguiinchor, diocesan and religious priests of Guinea Bissau, men and women religious, civil and political authorities, and delegations of faithful from Senegal, Gambia and Italy.
According to information sent to Agenzia Fides from the Curia of Bissau, the rite of episcopal ordination, celebrated in the Cathedral of Bissau, was considered a "historic" event for the faithful of the local Church, as it was the first consecration of a Bishop which took place there. Of the thousands of people who attended the celebration, about 2000 wore T-shirts made for the occasion, decorated with the face of the new Bishop. Everyone expressed their delight with songs, dances and prolonged applause that touched Mgr. José Lampra Cá. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 22/11/2011)
