CISA REPORT: COTONOU November 25, 2011 (CISA) -A plan of action has been adopted by participants at the end of a Post-Synodal Consultation on Reconciliation, Justice and Peace that took place immediately after the presentation of the Apostolic Exhortation: Africae Munus, on the Second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Africa, by Pope Benedict XVI during his Papal visit to Benin, recently.
The three-day, November 21-23, 2011, Consultation organised by the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) had as its theme: Africa Rise Up!
Participants coming from national and regional Episcopal Conferences of Africa; other Church Institutions on the continent and Partner Agencies came up with an action plan, The Cotonou Resolution, which identified strategies for achieving this goal.
One of the immediate actions for dissemination is the translation and distribution of the Exhortation at parish, diocesan and national levels by the end of January 2012.
According to Benedict Assorow, Director of Communications, Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), for the implementation of the Exhortation every national and regional Episcopal Conference is expected to put in place a Committee that includes professionals in all areas of work in relation to the theme of the Synod: The Church in Africa in Service to Reconciliation, Justice and Peace – You are the Salt of the Earth; you are the Light of the world.
To ensure that The Cotonou Resolution does not gather dust the consultation called for effective networking and collaboration among all offices and pastoral agents at all levels in the Church. The role of the media, the youth, women, social workers, formation houses, theologians and other professional groups was emphasized.
The Secretariat of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) has been requested to coordinate activities that have to be carried out on the continental level.
