The faithful have gathered in their hundreds at St Patrick’s Cathedral Parramatta to celebrate this year's Easter Vigil with Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, including 13 new members of the Catholic Church who were baptised during the Mass.
“The Easter Vigil is the climax of the liturgical year, the greatest of Christian ceremonies, and it is bathed in light. The Easter fire, the entry of the Paschal candle and the singing of the Exultet all celebrate divine light entering the darkness of human history and the hearts of every abandoned soul. It is the illumination of creation and of the Church,” Bishop Anthony said in his homily.
“Tonight our cathedral parish is especially privileged to celebrate the Baptisms of Chen, Claire, Montyn, Danielle, Kartik, Jacqueline with Noelani, Charmaine with Christian, Xiuling with Chloe, Alan and Lixin.
“Our brothers and sisters are washed clean of sin by Baptism and restored to grace and innocence.
“‘Night truly blessed, when heaven is wedded to earth, and man is reconciled with God.’ Alleluia! Christ is truly Risen!”
