AUSTRALIA: SISTER TO RECEIVE HIGHEST AWARD FROM ACU

CATH NEWS REPORT: Congregational leader of the Sisters of St Joseph, Sr Anne Derwin, will next Tuesday be awarded Australian Catholic University's (ACU) highest honour, Doctor of the University, in recognition of her contributions to education and leadership, the university said in a media release.


Sr Anne said she had never wanted anything more in life than to be a Sister of St Joseph, andAs Congregational Leader of the Sisters of St Joseph since March 2008, Sr Anne oversees a congregation of 850 Sisters across Australia, New Zealand, Peru, Brazil, East Timor, Ireland and Scotland.

together with her Sisters, identify and walk with those who are isolated, deprived, marginalised and lacking opportunity and choice.

ACU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Greg Craven, said she has performed this task not only extremely
well, but with the energy, leadership and clarity of vision needed to make a difference in the lives of these people.

"This leadership was clearly demonstrated during the canonisation of Australia's first saint," he said. "Sr Anne's collaborative work alongside senior politicians, Vatican officials, the Cardinal, Bishops, and the wider Australian Church ensured the event ran smoothly h and was a success celebrated by all Australians."

Sr Anne will receive her honorary doctorate at Australian Catholic University's Sydney graduation
ceremony on Tuesday, April 5.
