Agenzia Fides REPORT - “In Tripoli the situation is quite calm but the mood of the people is brought down by the continual queues for fuel and the difficulties in obtaining food, even office work and schools are affected by the situation,” says Bishop Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli, Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli to Fides.
“With regards to the life of the Church, we go on with our work. The police protect our residence,” continues Bishop Martinelli. “Yesterday we had a meeting with representatives from other Christian denominations in Tripoli (Anglican, Coptic, etc...), with the World Islamic Call Society, WICS (see Fides 16/03/2011). It was like a gathering of friends, very positive. The representatives from WICS reiterated their appreciation for the work of Christians in Libya and reaffirmed their willingness to cooperate with us.
“In this situation we are comforted by the fraternal solidarity from various Episcopal Conferences. I would like to thank Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa and President of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), who called me before the meeting of the Permanent Council of Bishops of the CEI and gave me some words of wisdom on the crisis in Libya. I also thank the Bishops of CERNA (see Fides 28/03/2011) for their message. I also had positive feedback from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops,” concludes Bishop Martinelli.http://www.fides.org/aree/news/newsdet.php?idnews=28685&lan=eng
