Priests for Life REPORT - Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, is urging all pro-life voters to mobilize immediately for the cause of life: "While voting is always a moral obligation, sometimes that obligation is stronger than at other times. This is especially true when pro-life people have an opportunity to elect, in a close race, someone who is committed to protect the unborn, and remove from office someone else who isn't," Father Pavone said.
"It is also true when the balance of power in a legislative body can be changed by the election. We have a moral obligation to vote in such a way that will do the most to advance the culture of life." Referring people to the Priests for Life election center, PoliticalResponsibility.com, Father Pavone urged a wide range of activities, including taking the day off on Election Day in order to distribute voter guides, volunteer for campaigns and for poll-watching, and taking people to the polls. Father Pavone authored this "Prayer for our Nation as we Prepare to Elect our Leaders"
O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord,Not only of individuals, but of nations and governments.
We thank you for the privilegeOf being able to organize ourselves politicallyAnd of knowing that political loyaltyDoes not have to mean disloyalty to you.
We thank you for your law,Which our Founding Fathers acknowledged And recognized as higher than any human law.
We thank you for the opportunity that this election year puts before us,To exercise our solemn duty not only to vote,But to influence countless others to vote,And to vote correctly.
Lord, we pray that your people may be awakened.Let them realize that while politics is not their salvation,Their response to you requires that they be politically active.
Awaken your people to know that they are not called to be a sect fleeing the worldBut rather a community of faith renewing the world.
Awaken them that the same hands lifted up to you in prayer Are the hands that pull the lever in the voting booth; That the same eyes that read your WordAre the eyes that read the names on the ballot,And that they do not cease to be ChristiansWhen they enter the voting booth.
Awaken your people to a commitment to justiceTo the sanctity of marriage and the family,To the dignity of each individual human life,And to the truth that human rights begin when human lives begin,And not one moment later.
Lord, we rejoice todayThat we are citizens of your kingdom.
May that make us all the more committedTo being faithful citizens on earth.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
