All Africa report: The Catholic Bishop of Rumbek, Caesar Mazzolari, has urged the Southern Sudanese to engage in building the foundations of the post-referendum reality now, for a better future.
In an exclusive interview with Good News Radio on Tuesday, Bishop Mazzolari said that the effectiveness of the referendum and the life after the exercise depend on the plans made now, adding that this involves a commitment to make personal sacrifices.
The bishop also called upon the people to maintain a peaceful atmosphere, explaining that building foundations and planning require an atmosphere of peace.
Bishop Mazzolari cautioned against the thinking that voting at the referendum is an end in itself, urging the Southern Sudanese to get involved in working for the common good.
The bishop further urged the Southern Sudanese to take ownership of the referendum with a sense of patriotism, cautioning them against expecting too much from the international community or remaining dependent on the decisions of the Northern government.
The bishop was outlining the plans for the November 8 to 15 Sudan Catholic Bishops' plenary that will bring together 45 Church personalities in Rumbek, among them three cardinals, to reflect together on the situation of the country headed for a referendum on self-determination of Southern Sudan http://allafrica.com/stories/201010080818.html
